Why Yoga

Yoga and mindfulness practices:

    • Provide students healthy ways to express and balance their emotions
    • Promote a calmer, more comfortable state of being — the optimal situation for teaching and learning
    • Bring students into the present moment – the most basic requirement for learning
    • Provide opportunities for beneficial motor breaks throughout the day, improving mind/body awareness
    • Ease anxiety and tension (such as pre-test or performance jitters)
    • Enhance organizational and communication skills
    • Improve confidence and self-esteem
    • Encourage respect for self and others
Encouraging the use of breathwork, promoting mindfulness practices, and providing students with movement breaks will:

    • Increase community by creating a positive and accepting atmosphere
    • Provide opportunities for reflection, patience, and insight, reducing impulsivity and reactivity
    • Enhance focus, concentration, comprehension, and memory
    • Wake up sluggish minds and creativity
    • Improve posture, assisting students to sit comfortably for long periods
    • Promote teacher self-care and stress management
