Meet the Teacher – Amber Campbell!
This week’s feature is Amber!
What inspired you to become a children’s yoga teacher?
I grew up in a volatile home and as a young adult found yoga to be the key thing that helped mitigate some of the effects that years of stress put on my body as well as my mind. As I got older, I began to research ACE’s (adverse childhood experiences) and learned that yoga and mindfulness help to build resilience in children who experience trauma. Since I had witnessed first hand the positive effects of yoga as an adult, I felt strongly that yoga and mindfulness can be a valuable practice for children.
What is one of your favorite classroom memories as a ZENworks instructor?
My favorite moments teaching are the moments that happen right after a child says they can’t do a pose, and then they try again and learn they can. It’s a privilege to play even a small part in helping a child build confidence.
What is your favorite yoga practice and why?
I love a slow flow vinyasa class. I appreciate the combination of strong poses and slow movement to focus on alignment and the breath. I’m a runner as well as a fast and frenetic person in general, so I find the opportunity, or insistence, to slow down to be very beneficial.
